“TAKE 30” Workplace Health Challenge

The Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion has provided us with the opportunity to create and implement an extensive Workplace Health Challenge to take place across Ontario within all of our member agencies! This incredible opportunity exists as a result of our Government’s new ACTIVE2010 strategy.

The race is on!

The “Take 30” Workplace Health Challenge is a simple, enjoyable, and easily manageable fitness initiative for all agency participants, greatly increasing the opportunity for our staff to attain the immeasurable benefits of enhanced health, personal goal achievement, energy levels, team rapport, and productivity! For our staff participants and the clients they serve, the Take 30 Workplace Health Challenge is an exceptional opportunity to create numerous achievements and success for everyone involved.

Participation in Take 30 involves increasing personal physical activity during the workday for 30 minutes everyday for the 5 month duration of the challenge. Take 30 Workplace Health Challenge involves over 50 teams, each representing a member agency, which have at least one enthusiastic and motivational Team Leader. The Team Leaders ensure that participants are tracking their fitness activities and times, in order to easily evaluate fitness level improvements. Most team and individual fitness activities are incorporated in already existing work breaks.

In order to ensure the greatest overall success for our Take 30 Workplace Health Challenge, we have been tracking:

1. Number of Team participants: Percentage of staff involvement in each agency.
2. Team’s average % fitness level and Improvement by: Time (weekly minutes spent being active); activity intensity levels (example: slow walk vs. brisk walk vs. jog, etc); and participant’s personal energy levels.

The Take 30 Workplace Health Challenge began on Monday June 5th, and concludes with the greatly anticipated Take 30 Final Challenge and Ultimate Adventure, on November 6th (Day 1 of “Futures 2006”). We can hardly wait!

Providing simple and attainable fitness opportunities at our workplace enhances long term fitness/ health awareness. This is in addition to significantly improving our physical & mental well-being, physical strength, energy levels, job satisfaction, team rapport, self-esteem, ability to participate in the activities we love, and of course, our capacity to give our best to our clients, families, friends, and ourselves!
